El productor discográfico de los Rolling Stones, Andrew Oldham, lo contrató como compositor a principios de los años 1960. Durante los años siguientes, Woolfson escribió canciones para artistas como Marianne Faithfull, Frank Ifield, Jo Dassin, The Tremeloes, Marmalade y Dave Berry.
